The Retention Specialist manages retention services for participants through relationships with community-based organizations (CBOs) and government agencies. Follow-up is a key component to the success of this position. The retention specialist works closely with business resource consultants (BRCs), human resource consultants (HRCs) and workforce development trainers (WDTs). The retention specialist reports to the center supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide retention services to program participants—services include assistance with transportation, clothing, childcare, training, etc.
- Develop and maintain an extensive list of local service providers with which to leverage free and/or reduced cost services
- Maintain frequent contact with participants to ascertain job performance and special needs
- Give feedback on performance issues related to participants and actual retention solutions provided
- Collaborate with BRCs and WDTs to identify community resources available to support business clients and their employees as well as create new and unique retention projects
- Build and maintain relationships with service provider networks and other necessary CBOs to improve awareness of Business Interface and its placement, retention and career advancement standards and goals
- Manage retention reporting, including obtaining necessary paperwork, pursuant to the contract reporting requirements
- Report retention and career development needs and information on participants to the BRC and WDT responsible for each project
- Survey placements on employment and retention services provided
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Working knowledge of workforce development
- Working knowledge of community resources and various benefits/entitlements to support low-wage workers and small/medium-sized employers
- Ability to manage and maintain the program database
- Capacity to understand individual circumstances
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to juggle multiple assignments and flexibility to work within a dynamic, fast-moving environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
- Willingness and ability to work as a member of a team
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
Preferred
- Experience in both the private and public/non-profit sector is preferred
- Bilingual skills in English and Spanish
